Now you can look to treating chronic urticaria naturally through ayurvedic treatment. Urticaria, more commonly known as hives develops as rashes on the skin surface and is often accompanied by severe itching.

Two types of urticaria are prominent, namely acute urticaria and chronic urticaria. Acute urticaria is one of a short duration and lasts up to six weeks. It is usually caused by certain medicines, food products, insect bites as well as infections. This skin condition is often treated by standard treatments such as antihistamines.

What is chronic urticaria?

Chronic urticaria is characteristic of having a longer duration beyond six weeks, and is generally caused due to allergy, though sometimes the exact reasons for its cause are unknown. Chronic urticaria may also be caused due to allergic or non-allergic reasons. Treating chronic urticaria with the use of standard and modern medicine may not be really effective.

Medicinal herbs and plants have been used for treating illnesses since times immemorial. The major advantages of Ayurvedic herbal medicines in the treatment of urticaria is that these medications may be taken for a longer period of time, without having any serious side effects.

Ayurvedic treatment for chronic urticaria:

Ayurvedic medicines come as a boon for the treatment of chronic urticaria. For example, the application of mustard or Brassica Juncea oil and fomentation of hot water proves beneficial. It helps when there is induced vomiting and mile purgation, but when the symptoms are severe, the treatment should only be given under the guidance of an experienced and qualified physician.

All possible efforts to avoid the offending cause of urticaria should be made, wherever possible. In order to get instant relief from itching, a mixture of soda bicarbonate powder and warm water should be applied to hives on the affected area. Ayurvedic medications containing Trikatu or Marich and turmeric are also very useful in controlling hives. Certain ayurvedic medicines like the Mukta, Kamdudha and the Gairik are also very useful in reducing the itching and burning sensation that are associated with urticaria.

Those patients suffering from chronic urticaria may not respond positively to this ayurvedic treatment. In order to get the best results, it is important to have a detailed history of the symptoms and the constitutional framework of the affected patient. The two most important principles that contribute significantly to the success of ayurvedic treatment in urticaria are the treatment for impurities in the “Rakta Dhatu” and the treatment for stress.

Therefore ayurvedic medicines such as Manjistha or Rubia Cordifolia, Sariva or Hemidesmus indicus, Guduchi or Tinospora cordifolia, Brahmi or Bacopa monnieri, Neem or Azadirachta indica and Shankhpushpi or Consecora decussate are very useful in the treatment of chronic urticaria.

Ayurvedic treatment may probably be the best treatment available for combating chronic urticaria. However, every ayurvedic treatment need to be tailor made for each patient suffering from chronic urticaria.

Hives are also known as urticaria in medical terms. It often refers to red, itching and raised areas on the skin and appears in different forms. They could range any where between a few millimetres to several inches throughout the body. Hives can either be round or can form rings or can be in the form of large patches. Hives can occur on any part of the body namely trunk, arms or legs.

The red and swollen bumps, patches, wheals or welts are another name for hives. They have a tendency to appear and disappear suddenly. One of the most common symptoms that is associated with hives is that of itching. Many people even complain of a burning or stinging sensation. These are a common reaction to every stimuli. Allergic reaction can be the major cause of hives, but for most cases, the reason for outbreak is not known.

Get rid of hives

What causes hives?

Hives are produced by a chemical substance called histamine as well as other compounds that are released from specialized cells known as mast cells. This histamine causes fluid to leak from the blood vessels, thus leading to itching and swelling of the skin.

Hives are a common phenomena. Though disturbing and irritating to look at, they resolve usually on their own over a few weeks. Certain hives are generally caused by allergies by such items like food, insect stings and other medications. A large majority of cases are not allergic, and no reason is ever known for their cause. This also brings about frustration among the sufferers by not knowing themselves as to what could be cause for hives in them. Nonetheless, hives do not lead to medical life threatening complications.

It is more difficult to find out how urticaria or hives occur in our body. It is important to note that allergic conditions do not lead to Urticaria. Some of the causes of hives are:

allergens. Many number of allergens can be identified as the main reason for the cause of urticaria. An urticaria is individual hypersensitivity and these factors may not ascertain urticaria in urticaria-prone people.

Urticaria and alcohol: The symptoms of analphylaxis occur in many patients following ingestion of beer or wine.

Environmental factors – urticaria may be induced by exposure to house-dust, buffalo dander, house dust, pollen, change in temperature are some of the environmental factors.

Other factors that lead to hives are drugs such as penicillin, allergens and other emotional factors.

Treatment of hives:

Most cases of hives are treated by relieving away the symptoms that are the cause of the hives; and thereafter the skin condition fades away by itself. The most common of oral treatments are the antihistamines.

Therapies for curing hives include the application of cream or lotion that help numb nerves and reduce the itching sensation. Though these are annoying and disturbing, they are mostly temporary.

Hives can often be difficult to treat. There are no proven treatments for controlling the attacks. In certain cases it is difficult to ascertain the appropriate medications because such a skin condition is intermittent and the outbreaks disappear without any treatment.

Did you know that we consume thousands of harmful food additives each day? And many of these food additives are very harmful to our health. You will find the required information from this useful article.

Some decades back, a ban was put on companies from adding known harmful chemicals inside the food we eat. In spite of this regulation, certain companies are still adding harmful chemicals to the food supplies. Hence it is very vital to gain thorough knowledge on what these chemicals are and which potential dangers they come with.

Facts on food additives:

As consumers, the only defense available at our disposal is that it is mandatory for each and every packaged food to list all the ingredients on the label. We do need to educate ourselves and understand the harmful food additives that are present in the food we buy. Hence we need to read every label of the food we consume.

Certain companies however discourage the discovery of harmful suspicious ingredients present in the food by making difficult to read the details on the package and making the print very small. Even if the names are present on the labels, their names could themselves make the matters more complex. The chemicals that are present have long and foreign names; hence people skip over them because they are tedious and difficult to read.

Food producers are very smart. They make use of healthy sounding phrases, so that it leads people to think that the food item is free from chemical food additives. So it is very important to read all the names of ingredients of the food item, to determine whether or not the food substance is free from food additives.

One basic helpful tip that will help in a great way is very simple. If you find the list long and loaded with long words that you are not familiar with, guess what? This is a product that has a loadful of chemical preservatives.

Types of food additives and their consequences:

We detail below a list of food additives that you must avoid for sure. Though not an exhaustive list, these food additives are often linked to health concerns and have very harmful side effects.

Sodium Nitrate – Generally found in lunch meat as well as hotdogs, this is a preservative and colour as well as a flavour enhancer. It is directly linked to cancer.

BHA and BHT – Butylated hydroxyanisole and butylated hydrozyttoluene are commonly used as preservatives. These are present in eatables such as chips, cereals or chewing gum. Their job is to oxidize the cells and oxidation of cells are a precursor to cancer.

Propyl Gallate is also used as a preservative. Evidence has it that it is directly linked to cancer.

Monosodium Glutamate is a well known food additive and used as a flavour enhance. This can cause common reactions such as headaches and nausea.

Food colours – are just another form of paint. While they liven up the walls of your drawing room, it certainly should not be present in food substances. Blue colours seen in baked foods, beverages and pet food have links to cancer. Red colour causes thyroid tumours in rats. Green colour has links to bladder cancer and yellow has links to tumours of adrenal glands and kidney.

There are many food additives that pose a challenge to your health. These additives are specific substances that are added to foods to improve their appearance, taste and to preserve their flavour. Medical professionals recently have discovered that use of food additives can actually pose a challenge to your health.

Food allergy or intolerance in food affects everyone at some of the other point. When a person has a feeling of unpleasantness after eating something, they consider that they are allergic to that food substance. But in real sense, only around 1 % of adults and 3 % of children have allergic reactions to food that are proven clinically.

Often people misinterpret food intolerance or any other adverse effect to the food as a food allergy. But this is not true. Food allergy results as an abnormal response to food which is triggered by some reaction inside the immune system and often expressed by certain symptoms. Reactions that are not food allergies are food intolerances such as lactose, food poisoning and toxic reactions. Symptoms of food intolerance though almost resemble those of food allergy.

Though mild and not so severe, those suffering from food allergies must therefore try to identify and prevent them, since their reactions may cause devastating illnesses and can be even fatal.

How are allergic reactions to food caused?

The allergens present in food substances are those elements that often are responsible for inducing an allergic reaction. These are proteins that resist the heat resulting from cooking, acid in the stomach as well as the intestinal digestive enzymes. After crossing the gastrointestinal lining, these allergens enter the bloodstream, reach the target organs of the body and causes allergic reactions. Food allergy often involves the immune system.

Two components of the immune system namely an antibody called immunoglobulin E (IgE) that circulates in the blood and the other is known as the mast cell, which is a specialized cell that is found in every tissue. An allergic reaction to food involves these two components.

Symptoms of Food allergy:

The complicated process of digestion does affect the location, timing and the particular symptoms of an allergic reaction related to food. Food allergy symptoms result within just a few hours of eating. A typical food allergy begins with minor itching in the mouth, with difficulty in swallowing and breathing. In the process of digesting the food, such indications such as vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea as well as abdominal pain is also experienced.

The allergens are easily absorbed and thereafter enter the bloodstream. As they reach the skin, these allergens induce eczema or hives. As they reach the lungs, they cause asthma. As they travel through blood vessels, they cause weakness, light-headedness and anaphylaxis meaning a sudden drop in blood pressure.

Prevention of food allergy:

The best way to prevent food allergy perhaps is to avoid the offending allergen. When the food that a patient is sensitive to is identified, it must necessarily be removed from his diet. In order to do this, the list of ingredients in the label must be carefully read. People can avoid those foods that they are sensitive to by carefully reading the labels.

There are several medications available for treating symptoms of food allergy. For instance, antihistamines are used to relieve gastrointestinal symptoms, sneezing, hives and a runny nose. Food allergy is not common but can be serious at times.

The term dermatitis simply means inflammation of the skin. Symptoms that follow dermatitis are that of redness, pain, itching, swelling and the formation of small wheals of welts across the skin. These welts are characterized by red coloured circles that are itchy and has a white centre on the surface of the skin.

There are many kinds of dermatitis, and this skin disorder has many reasons for its occurrence in many forms. Most cases of dermatitis appear as some sort of swollen and reddened skin that is itchy. Dermatitis also tends to affect other parts of the body such as face, chest, arms, legs as well as groin. This skin condition is the result of certain objects that come in direct contact with the skin at the workplace.

What is dermatitis?

Dermatitis is often a small brief reaction to a foreign substance. Your hands and feet are most vulnerable to chronic dermatitis, because the hands come in contact daily with so many foreign bodies and the feet always remain in the warm moist conditions created for them by socks and shoes, which favour fungus growth.

Though not life threatening and contagious, dermatitis is a common skin disorder that will definitely make you uncomfortable and very self-conscious. You need to take adequate precautionary measures by taking self-care and medications that treat dermatitis.

Features of dermatitis:

The skin condition known as dermatitis is also referred to as eczema or the Dermatitis eczema. Certain forms of dermatitis affect only few parts of the body, but other types can occur anywhere on the body.

Your skin reacts to severe dryness and substance creating irritation and scratchiness as well as allergens by taking shape of dermatitis. Eventually, this rubbing and scratching leads to hardening and thickening of the topmost surface of the skin.

Dermatitis affects young and the old alike. Mostly it affects infants and children, but may also occur in adulthood. Sometimes the skin remains dry and easily irritable and this leads to a permanent remission of the disease as a person gets older. This kind of dermatitis occurs by irritating chemicals such as acids, fat dissolving solvents etc. Allergic dermatitis can also occur on such parts of the body that never came in contact with the allergy causing substance.

Causes of Dermatitis:

Some of the main causes of dermatitis can be stated to be genetics, duration of the exposure to the allergen and also the presence of other skin disorders. Exposure to certain chemicals along with extreme heat and moisture also results in dermatitis. Agents that carry allergens can be plants such as poison oak, ivy and sumac. Skin inflammation causes skin to become dry, itchy and scaly. It can also be caused by a fungal infection.

Treatment of Dermatitis:

If your infection seems complicated to your doctor, he would probably recommend that you take a dose of erythromycin. Use of antihistamines also helps reduce irritation. For severe cases of dermatitis, use of systemic steroids, phototherapy and other complicated treatments is done. Protect your skin from solvents, dust, detergents, water and injury. You need to wear cool and smooth clothes.

Understand that your skin is constantly being exposed to many elements each day, thereby making it susceptible to a wide array of problems, and this also includes the skin disorder called dermatitis.

Allergic contact dermatitis is a skin condition that causes inflammation due to exposure of skin to an irritant. Only people who are naturally oversensitive to certain chemicals suffer from allergic contact dermatitis. Usually the symptoms occur in just one or two days after getting exposed to the allergen.

This type of skin disease occurs less frequently than the irritant contact dermatitis, but very often it is difficult to determine the difference in the two of them because a similar kind of rash appears in both cases.

Contact dermatitis results as a reaction that brings itching, redness and burning when the skin comes in contact with an allergen. It can also be caused by a general irritant like acid or a cleaning agent, laundry detergents, nickel present in jewellery and perfumes. Due to a large number of substances that people come in contact with daily, it could be rather difficult to determine what caused the contact dermatitis.

Causes of contact dermatitis:

Many substances can cause contact dermatitis. More common among them are the latex gloves, epoxy resins, perfumed soaps, colognes, perfumes, fabric softeners, irritant plants or smoke.

Symptoms and prevention of contact dermatitis:

Some of the most common symptoms for contact dermatitis are given below:

Itching that may occur during non-season including areas of ears, toes, chin and the underbelly. The skin in these areas turns red and causes rashes or papules. This can be prevented by not touching the area that gives the trigger. Wash your hands with soap and cold water. This could inactivate or totally remove most of the offending substance, if done immediately on exposure. If the blistering develops on the skin, it is helpful to apply cold moist compresses for about 30 minutes and three times each day.

To rid yourself of contact dermatitis, it is worthwhile to apply emollients that moisturise your skin and give a soothing feeling and hydrates the skin. Even if you do not have any skin disorder or eczema, this can be used every day. You could apply this on your body just after you bath.

Contact dermatitis can be well prevented just by avoiding any sort of contact with the substance that causes it. If at all there is a contact, the material should be cleaned immediately with soap and water. If there is an ongoing exposure, try wearing protective clothes and gloves. Barrier creams can be applied to prevent poison ivy and epoxy resins from skin contact.

Another method for preventing contact dermatitis is the corticosteroid medications which help reduce inflammation. It is however, advised not to overuse these medications, because it may result in a troublesome skin condition. In severe cases, the systemic corticosteroids may also be used to reduce inflammation.

Contact dermatitis is the skin inflammation that is very often the result of a contact with an external substance with your skin. Can the cause of contact dermatitis be fully avoided? If yes, the condition settles in a week or so. In other cases, it helps to minimise exposure to prevent recurrence.

A skin allergy can be referred to as a body’s over reaction to certain allergens that are present in the environment. A typical allergic dermatitis results when your skin comes into contact with an allergen which is sensitive to your body.

Factors causing skin allergy:

Skin rashes are often caused by jewellery metals and fragrances. Some other factors also trigger skin allergy such as animals, plants, food, clothing and heat. One of the common skin conditions in allergy is eczema that is characteristic of itching, dryness, inflammation and tightening of the skin. It has a tendency to recur over and over again.

Allergic contact dermatitis can occur at any age, whereas atopic dermatitis is a condition that happens mostly among kids. Hand dermatitis is often caused by skin irritants like chemicals or detergents. One of the main causes of dry skin is lack of water in the stratum corneum. Certain allergic reactions are also caused due to presence of insects in wines.

Treating skin allergy

Symptoms of common allergic conditions:

Allergy can occur at any age, probably sometimes in the womb as well. Why is it that some people are most sensitive to certain things while others are not? One of the major distinguishing reasons could be heredity.

Chances are, although you inherit the tendency to develop skin allergies, no symptoms may ever show up. It is not necessary that you inherit the same kind of allergies as your parents. Furthermore, how severe your symptoms might be or which disease you could develop is rather unknown.

The eyes, lungs, nose, skin and stomach are the parts of your body that are most prone to skin allergy. Different allergic diseases appear in different forms, but all of them are a result of exaggerated immune response to foreign bodies among sensitive people.

It is commonplace that you need to have a genetic tendency to be exposed to an allergen for developing a skin allergy. The more repetitive and intense the exposure to an allergen, the earlier it develops.

Preventing skin allergy:

It pays off well if you were to prevent skin allergy by taking certain precautionary measures. You need to follow the guidelines mentioned hereunder:

If your skin is sensitive, avoid using fragrance products.

Use of a good moisturising lotion will help prevent skin from going dry.

Apply corticosteroid creams or ointment that relieve you of itchiness and helps combat spread of rashes.

Use washing detergents that are not sensitive to the skin.

It could help a lot if you maintain a diary of those moments when your skin is inflamed or extremely itchy along with raised patches.

Among the most commonly used medicines are antihistamines and decongestants.

Exposure to heat and dust will cause allergic reaction but try to determine which exposures do aggravate your rash and then try avoiding them.

Skin allergy is caused by allergens that are foreign substances to the body. Allergy involves an exaggerated response to the entire immune system. The can occur at any age and your risk of developing skin allergy is directly related to your parents’ allergy history.

Skin allergy results due to sensitivity of the body due to some foreign substances. Not all people have the same level of tolerance against foreign bodies. When certain people cannot adjust with some elements in and around their surroundings, they could most likely suffer from skin problems which are commonly referred to as skin allergy.

You can definitely determine whether you have skin allergy or not. If a certain skin problem has not affected anyone else but you, then it is termed as an allergic reaction. For instance, most people are overly exposed to dust today, but if it has affected you strongly more than others, then you are said to be allergic to dust.

Forms of skin allergy:

There are many forms of skin allergy. These could take form of dry and scaly skin, itching, skin eruptions, boils, rashes etc. There are three major types of problems that associate with skin allergy. These are given below:

Dermatitis – Dermatitis is a form of skin allergy that occurs due to contact with certain objects. It is referred to as inflammation.

Hives – Hives or urticaria is a skin condition when there is fluid accumulation in the skin and thereafter shows up as swelling. This condition of the skin is temporary and often is healed with treatment.

Prickly heat – Prickly heat is a type of red rash that occurs on the body. Prickly heat occurs due to excessive perspiration in hot and humid climates.

When should you consult your allergist?

Those allergies that involve the eyes and nose are mostly caused when an offending allergen comes in contact with the mucous membrane lining of the eyes or nose. When the individual is constantly exposed, the physician diagnoses it as a chronic or persistent allergic rhinitis. Mold spores, house dust mites, cockroach allergen and feathers or pets are the major allergens responsible.

Seasonal allergic rhinitis or hay fever symptoms mostly occur in pollen seasons during the grass and tree pollination times. You may consider visiting your allergist when the following symptoms are noticed daily or occasionally:

Runny nose

Sneezing,

Itching of nose, eyes, ears and throat

Swollen, itchy and tearing eyes

Nasal congestion

Allergic rhinitis is very easy for your physician to diagnose. Your allergist will probably do the necessary test to confirm the allergy, identify the allergens and ascertain the severity.

Those adults and children who suffer from skin allergy are often spotted sneezing, sniffing, rubbing the eyes or blowing their nose. For some fortunate people, these symptoms pose a minor inconvenience, but if the condition is severe enough, they could very well affect the quality of one’s life.

Many preventive measures can be taken by skin allergy sufferers against potentially dangerous allergic reactions. However, the best medicine that can be made available is proper education on the subject. It is vital to consult a skin allergist for up-to-date and latest treatments.

Are you looking for herbal medicines to rid yourself of hives? Yes, natural herbs do help in curing hives. Most cases of hives are cured by relieving symptoms as the skin condition fades away on its own. One of the most commonly used oral treatments are antihistamines that help combat the effects of a chemical called histamine that is released from the mast cells. But the main side effect of histamine is that of drowsiness.

Though antihistamines are generally available without prescription, they are not advisable for long term use due to inherent side effects. They cannot be taken before driving or in doing activities that require mental concentration.

Role of natural medicines:

Natural medicines for curing hives do not have any side effects and are also capable of curing hives in a permanent way. More often than not, allergy to some foreign substance is generally the cause of hives in one’s body. Allergy to certain foods or items, clothes etc. cause hives. Some cases of urticaria are caused due to emotional distress. Try to figure out which one works as an irritant on your skin and then eliminate it out.

Many medical practitioners recommend modification of nutritional diet as part of their hives curing programme. Before you start on a herbal medicine programme, please consult your qualified medical practitioner. We give below some tips that might be of help to you:

Marigold tea or herbal medicine drink calendula can be had either by mouth by mixing honey in it or by an infusion into the bathe water. Wort oil by St. John’s also proves helpful.

Chinese medicine herbal teas have proven results to alleviate the childhood urticaria.

Treat yourself to an exclusive massage every day with essential oils such as geranium, rose, juniper, hyssop or lavender.

Apply Vitamin E cream or oil on the affected area for considerable relief from hives.

Itching can also be smoothened by using the Herbal Medicine Soak in the infected area wherein camomine or chickweed are infused.

Try supplementing your diet by Vitamin C which helps reduce repeated attacks.

Other Herbal Medicines for skin rashes:

Some other methods including homeopathic treatments are also recommended for fast relief from hives:

When the rash is pink and accompanied by a swelling in the affected area, the “Apis” can be used as a homeopathic treatment. When an allergen was the cause of the skin rash, this method should be followed.

Ledum: When there is swelling and puffiness that comes with itching sensation, this application is advised. This application of cold compresses could soothe the discomfort that is felt in itchy and swollen areas.

Homeopathic Ape: Graphites and Pulsatilla are also helpful for curing hives. Herbal teas like calendula ointment, Marigold tea or even Aloe Vera is helpful.

Are you looking for a remedy for hives? Well, read on to find out more. Hives or urticaria is also called wheals or welts in a layman’s language. It only means itching with rashes all over the body. Urticaria is basically a skin eruption that could be either allergic or non-allergic and is characterized by acute itching and circular red shaped eruptions on any part of the body.

These eruptions can last on the body for varied periods, from a few seconds to long hours. They do have a tendency to appear and disappear and shows up as a raised skin level. It can either be acute or chronic and could recur for many months or years. They have a tendency to change their size rapidly, disappearing on one area only to reappear on another area.

How are hives caused?

Hives are visible to us in the form of pink or red bumps, welts or patches on the skin, are swollen and itching is the major symptom in this skin disorder. Hives are common response to all types of stimuli. Normally allergy is the major cause of hives, but in majority of cases, the exact reason for the outbreak of hives is unknown.

Hives take shape when a chemical named histamine as well as other compounds are released by special cells called mast cells. Though it is a fact that allergy can trigger its release, other factors also can be responsible. Histamine causes blood vessels to leak fluid into the neighbouring tissues. As a result of capillary, small areas of itching and swelling develop on the skin.

Remedies for hives:

Hives can be annoying to look at, though they do not pose any medical emergency. Most people opt for commercially available preparations, prescriptions, or allergy doses. These drug preparations contain cortisone or antihistamines which help control hives. Since they have adverse side effects, they should not be used over long periods of time. As an alternative to the conventional practices for curing hives, there is also a natural remedy to alleviate the degree of itching and inflammation resulting from hives.

Doctors recommend you figure out the cause for your skin irritation and then eliminate exposure to that allergen.

Sandalwood oil is well known for its cooling and calming effects and hence helps soothing the skin.

Quercetin that is found in leafy green vegetables and certain fruits acts as a natural antihistamine, and can reduce or eliminate hives completely.

Mint is another remedy that gives you a calm and cool effect. The irritating symptoms of hives can be soothed by mint.

Some of the doctors will definitely tell you that there is no remedy for hives. However, there are ways to cure hives permanently. Most cases of urticaria are cured by relieving the system from its symptoms while the condition withers away on its own. The most common of oral treatments are the antihistamines that oppose the histamine effects in the body.
