Preventing chronic urticaria – what is the ayurvedic treatment available for chronic urticaria

Now you can look to treating chronic urticaria naturally through ayurvedic treatment. Urticaria, more commonly known as hives develops as rashes on the skin surface and is often accompanied by severe itching.

Two types of urticaria are prominent, namely acute urticaria and chronic urticaria. Acute urticaria is one of a short duration and lasts up to six weeks.  It is usually caused by certain medicines, food products, insect bites as well as infections. This skin condition is often treated by standard treatments such as antihistamines.

What is chronic urticaria?

Chronic urticaria is characteristic of having a longer duration beyond six weeks, and is generally caused due to allergy, though sometimes the exact reasons for its cause are unknown.  Chronic urticaria may also be caused due to allergic or non-allergic reasons. Treating chronic urticaria with the use of standard and modern medicine may not be really effective.

Medicinal herbs and plants have been used for treating illnesses since times immemorial. The major advantages of Ayurvedic herbal medicines in the treatment of urticaria is that these medications may be taken for a longer period of time, without having any serious side effects.

Ayurvedic treatment for chronic urticaria:

Ayurvedic medicines come as a boon for the treatment of chronic urticaria. For example, the application of mustard or Brassica Juncea oil and fomentation of hot water proves beneficial. It helps when there is induced vomiting and mile purgation, but when the symptoms are severe, the treatment should only be given under the guidance of an experienced and qualified physician.

All possible efforts to avoid the offending cause of urticaria should be made, wherever possible. In order to get instant relief from itching, a mixture of soda bicarbonate powder and warm water should be applied to hives on the affected area.  Ayurvedic medications containing Trikatu or Marich and turmeric are also very useful in controlling hives. Certain ayurvedic medicines like the Mukta, Kamdudha and the Gairik are also very useful in reducing the itching and burning sensation that are associated with urticaria.

Those patients suffering from chronic urticaria may not respond positively to this ayurvedic treatment. In order to get the best results, it is important to have a detailed history of the symptoms and the constitutional framework of the affected patient.  The two most important principles that contribute significantly to the success of ayurvedic treatment in urticaria are the treatment for impurities in the “Rakta Dhatu” and the treatment for stress.

Therefore ayurvedic medicines such as Manjistha or Rubia Cordifolia, Sariva or Hemidesmus indicus, Guduchi or Tinospora cordifolia, Brahmi or Bacopa monnieri, Neem or Azadirachta indica and Shankhpushpi or Consecora decussate are very useful in the treatment of chronic urticaria.

Ayurvedic treatment may probably be the best treatment available for combating chronic urticaria.  However, every ayurvedic treatment need to be tailor made for each patient suffering from chronic urticaria.
