What is chronic urticaria?

There are two major types of urticaria – acute and chronic. Acute urticaria is one that lasts up to around 6 weeks and generally caused due to medicines, food substances, insect bits and infections. This skin condition usually responds well to administration of oral standard treatment such as antihistamines.

A chronic urticaria is often of a longer duration and in majority of cases, the causes that led to this skin condition are not known.  Use of standard medicine will not help in any way here. Such patients find the use of Ayurvedic Herbal treatment as very useful and effective on them. The most important advantage of being on an Ayurvedic herbal treatment is that, though these medicines taken for longer periods, it does not carry any serious side effects.

The skin surface when disturbed causes the rashes to appear all over and this skin condition is called “Vata” dosha.  This type of urticaria is known as “Sheeta Pita”.  In similar fashion, “Kalpa” dosha responsible for itching is a characteristic of the symptom of itching and this type of urticaria is “udards”.  The impurities caused in “Rakta” dhatu happens due to induced vomiting and this is called “Kotha”.  When it is recurrent it is known as “Utkotha”.

Treatment of chronic urticaria – ayurvedic herbal treatment:

Ayurvedic herbal treatment has come by as the most effective and natural way to cure chronic urticaria.  For treating urticaria, it is very beneficial to apply the Indian mustard or Brassica juncea oil and fomentation with hot water.  This results in induced vomiting and a mild sort of purgation, which are both beneficial.

When the symptoms are quite severe, however, these procedures need to be carried out by an experienced and quality physician only.  While every effort is put to avoid the offending allergen, it is not always possible to find out the exact cause.  Soda bicarbonate powder when mixed with warm water and applied to hives will give immediate relief from itching.

Certain ayurvedic medicines that contain Trikatu or Marich together with Turmeric or Haridrakhand Yog are also beneficial to control hives. Certain other products such as Arogyavardhini, Gandhak Rsayan and Sameerpannag are also useful to treat urticaria. Ayurvedic medicines such as Mukta, Gairik and Kamdudha are very helpful in greatly reducing the burning sensation associated with itching in hives.

Those patients who are suffering from chronic urticaria may not respond positively to this kind of ayurvedic treatment. In order for the physician to arrive at a perfect combination of ayurvedic medicines for each patient, and to get maximum results, it is vital to study the detailed history for symptoms.

Chronic urticaria may be effectively treated by the use of Ayurvedic Herbal Medicines.  The most important point to be noted here is that even after prolonged use, there are no severe side effects in this programme.
